Are postbiotics the missing link in better gut health?
On the agenda: Gut health covers several aspects such as digestion/absorption of food, absence of illness, microbiota, immune system and overall wellbeing. Last 2 decades have seen an explosion of research, advice and products, mostly concentrating on the modulation of gut microbiota. However, their promise to deliver good health is yet to be fulfilled fully. This talk aims to show that postbiotics could be the thing that will begin to change that.
Our speaker: Jelena holds PhD in Gut Microbiology and has more than 22 years of academic research and industry experience in the field of microbiota in gut, immune and brain health. She was involved in nearly 50 clinical studies and was one of the people who developed a prebiotic Bimuno. Jelena co-founded veMico (www.vemico.co.uk) in 2019 to develop microbiome derived products that extend healthy living.

The Probiotic-Cholesterol Connection
Cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death globally, claiming 17.9 million lives each year. A major risk factor for the condition is elevated levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL), colloquially referred to as "bad" cholesterol. Join Dr Adele Costabile as she explores the link between our microbiome and cholesterol levels, ultimately seeking to answer the question: Can probiotics reduce "bad cholesterol" via changes in the microbiome?

Akkermansia, the gut bacteria: a key to healthy life or dangerous provocateur of autoimmunity?
Akkermansia makes up around 1−5% of intestinal microbiota in healthy individuals. Emerging research has flagged this microbe as a promising probiotic that improves immune health and metabolic functions whilst potentially aiding weight loss. With that said, researchers have observed increased amounts of Akkermansia in those with multiple sclerosis alongside pro-inflammatory antibodies to this specific bacteria.
